The Role

We are seeking a Communications & Community Engagement Specialist to join our Kyiv-based team. In this role, you will be the bridge between Aruna Revolution's mission and the communities we serve across Ukraine and beyond. You will craft compelling narratives, manage multi-channel communications strategies, and build authentic relationships with stakeholders ranging from local community leaders to international partners. This is not a desk-bound PR role — it requires someone who can move fluidly between writing a strategic communications plan in the morning and facilitating a community listening session in the afternoon.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that align with Aruna Revolution's mission, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms including social media, email newsletters, press releases, and the organization's website.
Create high-quality written content in both Ukrainian and English — including blog posts, op-eds, impact reports, social media copy, and speeches — that resonates with diverse audiences and drives engagement.
Build and nurture relationships with local community organizations, NGOs, government bodies, and international partners to expand Aruna Revolution's network and influence across Ukraine.
Plan and facilitate community engagement events, workshops, and listening sessions that center the voices of marginalized communities and feed insights back into organizational strategy.
Monitor media coverage and public sentiment related to environmental and social issues in Ukraine, providing timely analysis and recommending proactive communications responses.
Manage the organization's social media presence across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram, and X (formerly Twitter), growing follower engagement by at least 20% over the first six months.
Coordinate with the fundraising and program teams to develop donor-facing materials, grant narratives, and impact storytelling content that supports revenue generation efforts.
Track and report on communications KPIs using tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and native platform insights, presenting monthly performance reports to leadership.
Support crisis communications by preparing holding statements, media Q&A documents, and rapid-response protocols to protect the organization's reputation during sensitive moments.
Mentor junior team members and contribute to building a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture that values feedback, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Work Environment & Culture

Aruna Revolution operates with a flat organizational structure where every team member's perspective carries weight. We believe that the best ideas emerge when people feel psychologically safe to challenge assumptions and take creative risks. Our Kyiv office is a hybrid-friendly environment — you will have the flexibility to work remotely several days per week while also having access to a collaborative co-working space for team gatherings, workshops, and community events. We observe Ukrainian public holidays and offer flexible scheduling to accommodate the realities of working in a country navigating ongoing challenges. The team is small but ambitious, and you will have direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape the communications function from the ground up.

Requirements

3–5 years of professional experience in communications, community engagement, journalism, or a related field, preferably within the NGO, social enterprise, or international development sector.
Exceptional writing and editing skills in both Ukrainian and English, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences — from government officials to grassroots community members.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing communications strategies that achieved measurable results (audience growth, engagement increases, media pickup, etc.).
Strong facilitation and public speaking skills, with comfort leading workshops and events for diverse groups of 10–100+ participants.
Deep understanding of the Ukrainian civic landscape, including key environmental and social issues, active civil society organizations, and relevant government structures.
Experience working in multicultural, remote, or distributed teams, with strong cross-cultural communication skills and emotional intelligence.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus but not required — we value demonstrated impact over credentials.

Technical Skills & Tools

You should be proficient or willing to quickly learn: Canva or Adobe Creative Suite for visual content creation; WordPress or similar CMS platforms; Hootsuite, Buffer, or Later for social media management; Google Analytics and Google Search Console for web performance tracking; Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms; Slack and Notion for team collaboration; basic video editing using tools like CapCut or DaVinci Resolve; and familiarity with media monitoring tools such as Mention or Meltwater is a strong advantage.
