Hiring Executive Director in Baltimore

📍 Baltimore, MarylandFull-timeHybrid📅 11 juin 2026

Description du poste

Baltimore Homecoming is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded with a clear mission: to connect the thousands of Baltimore natives who have relocated across the United States back to the city they call home, and to mobilize that network to support tangible, community-led revitalization efforts across Baltimore. Since our founding, we have built a strong track record of success, including 12 annual alumni homecoming events drawing 2,000+ attendees, $500,000 in grant funding distributed to local Baltimore City small businesses and student scholarship programs, and a national alumni network of 7,500+ members across 40 states. Led by a volunteer steering committee of local business leaders, alumni advocates, and community organizers, we are now entering a phase of scaled growth, and are seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead our operations, expand our impact, and formalize our organizational structure for long-term sustainability. Reporting directly to our board of directors, the Executive Director will serve as the primary operational and strategic leader of Baltimore Homecoming, overseeing all core functions including fundraising, program development, stakeholder engagement, financial management, and team leadership. This role is based in our Baltimore office in the Inner Harbor area, with a hybrid work model that allows for 2 days of remote administrative work per week, and occasional travel (4-6 times per year, primarily weekends) for national alumni events and partnership meetings. Key responsibilities for this role include: 1. Develop and execute a comprehensive 3-year strategic plan aligned with Baltimore Homecoming’s mission, with measurable targets including 40% growth in national alumni membership, 35% increase in annual operating revenue, and the launch of 4 new community impact programs serving Baltimore City residents within the first 18 months of tenure. 2. Lead end-to-end fundraising operations, including cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individual donors, writing grant proposals for corporate and foundation funding, and managing an annual operating budget of $1.2M with full financial transparency and accountability to the board, donors, and 501(c)(3) regulatory requirements. 3. Build and engage a national network of 10,000+ Baltimore alumni across all 50 states, implementing targeted outreach strategies including quarterly virtual professional development events, an annual in-person homecoming weekend, and personalized engagement for high-value segments of the alumni population. 4. Oversee the design, delivery, and impact tracking of community programs, including a need-based scholarship fund for Baltimore City high school students, a grant program for Black and Latino-owned small businesses in underserved Baltimore neighborhoods, and a formal partnership with Baltimore City government to support neighborhood revitalization initiatives. 5. Manage a team of 3 full-time operational staff and 15+ part-time volunteer coordinators, providing performance oversight, professional development opportunities, and fostering an inclusive, equitable team culture rooted in transparency and community-centered decision making. 6. Serve as the primary public spokesperson for Baltimore Homecoming, representing the organization at local community events, national alumni gatherings, media opportunities, and board meetings, while building strategic partnerships with local businesses, city agencies, and peer nonprofits to expand program reach and impact. 7. Ensure full compliance with all 501(c)(3) regulatory requirements, including annual IRS Form 990 filing, donor privacy protocols, and ethical fundraising standards set by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), with a goal of maintaining our existing 4-star Charity Navigator rating. 8. Evaluate program effectiveness and operational efficiency on a quarterly basis, using data analytics tools to adjust strategies, report impact to stakeholders, and optimize resource allocation to maximize return on investment for all funded initiatives. Our team culture is collaborative, mission-driven, and rooted in a shared commitment to Baltimore’s future. We prioritize work-life balance for all staff, offer regular team feedback sessions, and encourage all team members to bring their full selves to work. This role is ideal for a nonprofit leader with a personal connection to Baltimore, or a deep passion for community revitalization and alumni engagement work. Ideal candidates will bring 7+ years of professional experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or alumni engagement, with at least 3 years of experience managing a budget of $1M or more. A proven track record of securing 6-figure major donor contributions or foundation grants is required, as is demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic plans for mission-driven organizations. Preferred qualifications include CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification, existing professional networks in Baltimore or among national Baltimore alumni, a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration, and prior experience working with Baltimore City community organizations. Proficiency in the following tools is required for this role: donor management software (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack), project management platforms (Asana, Jira), financial management tools (QuickBooks Nonprofit, Sage Intacct), data analytics software (Google Analytics, Tableau for impact reporting), and the Microsoft 365 suite. Experience with virtual event platforms (Zoom Events, Hopin) for national alumni engagement is a strong plus. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support both your professional and personal well-being. The annual salary for this role ranges from $95,000 to $115,000, commensurate with experience, plus a performance-based annual bonus of up to 10% of salary tied to achievement of strategic organizational goals. Full benefits include 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for the employee, 20 paid vacation days per year, 10 paid sick days, 12 paid company holidays, and a $2,000 annual professional development stipend for conferences, certifications, or training of your choice. We also offer flexible scheduling for occasional travel related to alumni events, with all travel expenses covered by the organization. This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth and impact. As we scale our operations, you will have the chance to build a national reputation as a leader in alumni engagement and community revitalization, present at national nonprofit conferences, contribute to industry publications, and shape the long-term direction of a model organization that is being studied by peer nonprofits across the country. There will also be opportunities to grow the executive team over time, with potential for expanded leadership responsibilities as we enter our next phase of growth. The hiring process for this role is structured to be transparent and efficient: - Applications (resume and 1-page cover letter outlining your relevant experience and vision for Baltimore Homecoming’s future) are due by October 15, 2024, submitted via email to [email protected] with the subject line "Executive Director Application - [Your Full Name]". - Selected candidates will be invited to a 30-minute initial phone screen with the board hiring committee during the week of October 21, 2024. - Finalists will participate in two 60-minute virtual interviews with the full board of directors, including a 15-minute presentation of your 90-day strategic vision for the organization, during the week of October 28, 2024. - The selected candidate will be notified of an offer by November 8, 2024, with a target start date of December 2, 2024. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds who have a demonstrated commitment to Baltimore’s community, and we will accommodate reasonable requested adjustments to the interview process for candidates with disabilities.
