Description du poste
Baltimore Homecoming is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2018 with the mission of strengthening ties between the more than 200,000 Baltimore alumni residing across the United States and local city development initiatives. We mobilize human and financial resources to support educational projects, neighborhood revitalization, and employment access for Baltimore residents, relying on a network of volunteers and partners from the private, public, and associative sectors. To date, our organization has 12,000 registered members, a 15-member board of directors composed of local leaders and alumni, and we have already raised more than $3 million for local projects since our creation.
We are recruiting our next Executive Director to lead the next phase of Baltimore Homecoming's growth and amplify our impact on the city. This leadership position is responsible for defining and implementing the organization's overall strategy, managing daily operations, supervising salaried staff and volunteers, and representing the organization to all stakeholders. The position holder will report directly to the board of directors and work closely with the steering committee to achieve set objectives.
Key responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a three-year strategic plan aligned with the organization's mission, with measurable objectives of 25% annual growth in the membership base and a 30% increase in funds allocated to local projects by 2027.
2. Lead the organization's annual fundraising campaign, targeting an annual goal of $1.2 million by 2026, by mobilizing individual donations, local foundation grants, and partnerships with companies based in the Chesapeake Bay region.
3. Manage daily operations of the organization, including supervision of a team of 5 to 7 full-time employees and a network of 200 volunteers, ensuring compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements applicable to 501(c)(3) organizations in the United States.
4. Coordinate Baltimore Homecoming's annual events, including the annual fundraising gala and 8 to 10 regional alumni networking events, targeting an 80% participation rate of registered members and a participant satisfaction score of 4.5/5 in post-event surveys.
5. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key players in Baltimore's ecosystem: local universities (Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland Baltimore County), technology and healthcare sector companies, municipal authorities, and local community organizations, to align the organization's actions with the identified needs of the city.
6. Oversee management of the member database, currently comprising more than 12,000 alumni residing in 40 states, and implement targeted communication tools to increase member engagement rates by 30% by the end of the first year.
7. Represent Baltimore Homecoming at public events, stakeholder meetings, and local media to strengthen the organization's and its mission's visibility among the general public and local decision-makers.
8. Produce quarterly reports for the board of directors, including key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fundraising, member engagement, and the impact of implemented programs.
Work environment and culture: We offer a collaborative and inclusive work environment where every team member and volunteer is encouraged to share ideas to improve our action. The position is based in Baltimore, with a hybrid work model: 3 days per week in our downtown Baltimore office, and 2 days of remote work. We value work-life balance and offer flexible hours adapted to event constraints and stakeholder meetings. The team is composed of professionals passionate about community impact, and we regularly organize experience-sharing sessions and training for the skill development of all members.
Candidate requirements:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization, with proven experience in fundraising and managing teams of more than 5 people.
- Previous experience in managing partnerships with public, private, or associative stakeholders, ideally in the Baltimore region or in community mobilization contexts.
- Proficiency in project management tools (Asana, Monday.com) and database and donor management software (Salesforce, Little Green Light) commonly used in the US nonprofit sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to address diverse audiences (alumni, donors, local elected officials, media) and adapt messaging to the target audience.
- Knowledge of Baltimore's nonprofit, economic, and political landscape and the Chesapeake Bay region, a major asset for the position.
- Ability to travel occasionally (10 to 15% of the time) to attend regional alumni events or meetings with partners on the US East Coast.
- Fluency in English (working language); Spanish proficiency is an asset for interacting with Baltimore's Hispanic communities, which represent more than 20% of the city's population.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field is an asset.
