Hiring Commercial Lines Account Manager in Louisville
📍 Louisville, KYFull-timeHybrid📅 11 juin 2026
Description du poste
About the Agency
This opportunity is with a 28-year-old independent insurance agency based in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, serving more than 1,200 commercial clients across the Midwest, from small retail businesses to large manufacturing operations with $50M+ in annual revenue. The agency holds exclusive partnerships with 22 top-rated carriers including Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Hiscox, and Chubb, and has been named a Top 100 Independent Agency in the U.S. for three consecutive years. We are expanding our commercial lines team to support 30% growth in new client acquisitions over the next 18 months, and are seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Account Manager to own and grow a dedicated portfolio of commercial accounts.
Role Overview
In this hybrid role, you will act as the primary point of contact for all assigned commercial clients, responsible for every stage of the policy lifecycle from initial onboarding to renewal and ongoing risk management. Unlike roles at captive insurance carriers where you are limited to a single carrier’s product offerings, this position gives you full access to our broad carrier network to secure the best possible coverage and pricing for each client. You will have full autonomy over your schedule and client interactions, with no mandatory sales quotas beyond reasonable new account acquisition targets aligned with the agency’s growth goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage a portfolio of 120+ existing commercial client accounts across property, casualty, general liability, and workers’ compensation lines, maintaining a 95%+ year-over-year client retention rate through proactive quarterly check-ins, coverage reviews, and responsive claims support.
2. Develop and present tailored insurance proposals for 15+ new commercial prospects annually, leveraging knowledge of local Kentucky business risks and carrier underwriting guidelines to secure coverage that meets client needs and budget constraints.
3. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all assigned clients during onboarding and annually thereafter, identifying unaddressed exposures and recommending coverage adjustments that reduce average client claim frequency by 10% per account per year.
4. Negotiate policy terms, pricing, and endorsements with underwriting teams at our partner carriers, securing an average 7% reduction in premium costs for clients without sacrificing coverage limits or deductibles.
5. Lead renewal efforts for all assigned accounts 90 days prior to policy expiration, resolving client concerns, addressing coverage gaps, and finalizing renewal paperwork to achieve a lapse rate of under 3% per renewal cycle.
6. Maintain complete and accurate records of all client interactions, policy changes, and negotiation outcomes in the agency’s Applied Epic CRM platform, ensuring full compliance with Kentucky Department of Insurance regulatory record-keeping requirements.
7. Mentor 2-3 junior account coordinators on best practices for client communication, policy management, and claims support, contributing to a 20% improvement in overall team productivity over a 12-month period.
8. Identify cross-selling opportunities for complementary coverage lines including cyber liability, commercial auto, and professional liability, increasing average revenue per account by 15% annually without increasing client premium costs.
Work Environment & Culture
This is a hybrid role based in our downtown Louisville office, with a required in-office schedule of 3 days per week for team meetings and client-facing events, and 2 remote days per week for focused portfolio management and proposal development. Our office features a dedicated quiet workspace for deep work, free on-site parking, and a fully stocked break room with local Louisville coffee and snacks. We prioritize work-life balance: we offer unlimited paid time off with a mandatory minimum of 15 days off per year, and no after-hours email or client communication expectations outside of scheduled work hours. Our team hosts monthly client appreciation events, quarterly offsites in nearby cities, and an annual all-company retreat to recognize top performers. We operate with a flat hierarchy, meaning you will have full autonomy over your client portfolio and scheduling, with leadership support available only when requested.
Candidate Requirements
We are seeking candidates with 3 or more years of experience in commercial insurance account management, preferably in an independent agency setting. You must hold an active Kentucky insurance producer license, or be willing to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Strong working knowledge of commercial property, casualty, and liability policy forms, as well as Kentucky insurance regulations, is required. Proficiency in Applied Epic CRM, advanced Microsoft Excel for portfolio tracking and forecasting, and carrier portal systems is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong negotiation abilities, and the capacity to manage a portfolio of 100+ accounts independently are non-negotiable. A bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or a related field is preferred, but candidates with equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Technical Skills & Tools
You will use the following tools regularly in this role:
- Applied Epic CRM for client relationship and policy management
- Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel for revenue forecasting and portfolio performance tracking)
- Carrier-specific underwriting portals for Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Hiscox, and Chubb
- Zoom and Microsoft Teams for client meetings and internal team collaboration
- Tableau for quarterly portfolio performance reporting to agency leadership
- Kentucky Department of Insurance regulatory compliance portals for policy filing and record-keeping
Compensation & Benefits
This role offers a competitive base salary of $62,000 to $78,000 per year, plus an uncapped commission structure that averages an additional $15,000 to $25,000 annually for top performers who meet retention and new account acquisition targets. Benefits include 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees, with 50% coverage for dependents; a 401(k) plan with a 6% employer match; unlimited PTO with a mandatory 15-day minimum; a $2,500 annual professional development stipend for industry certifications, conference attendance, or continuing education; a $75 monthly cell phone stipend; company-provided laptop and dual monitors for hybrid work; and access to a company vehicle for client meetings when required.
Career Growth Opportunities
We prioritize internal promotion for all eligible employees. Account Managers who maintain a 95%+ retention rate and exceed new account acquisition targets for 12 consecutive months are eligible for promotion to Senior Account Manager, with a salary increase of 10-15% and additional performance bonuses. After 3 years of tenure, high-performing Account Managers may be considered for a Commercial Lines Team Lead role, with responsibility for managing a team of 4-6 account managers and a salary range of $85,000 to $105,000 per year. All employees have access to our leadership training program, funded by the agency, and optional executive mentorship from our agency’s founding partners for those interested in long-term career growth with the company.
Hiring Process & Next Steps
The hiring process for this role is transparent and efficient, with no unnecessary interview rounds. Qualified candidates will first complete a 15-minute phone screen with recruiter Hannah Lowry Menjivar to discuss your background and fit for the role. Next, you will participate in a 60-minute virtual interview with our Commercial Lines Director to review your past experience and role expectations. Finalists will be asked to complete a 30-minute practical exercise simulating a client renewal negotiation, followed by a 30-minute in-person interview at our downtown Louisville office to meet the rest of the commercial lines team. We aim to extend formal offers within 10 business days of the final interview, with a target start date of 30 days from offer acceptance. To apply, send your resume and a brief 2-paragraph summary of your experience managing commercial insurance accounts to [email protected] with the subject line “Commercial Lines Account Manager Application – [Your Full Name]”. We respond to all applications within 3 business days.
